WhatsApp is one of the most important apps on our phones in today’s digital faced paced era. We rely on whatsapp for most of our daily tasks these days, may it be chatting with our loved ones, sharing quick information and updates or even handling our job schedule.
As we depend on Whatsapp for most of our daily conversations, we have a lot of important messages or documents shared in the chats. But what happens if you accidentally delete an important WhatsApp message or a personal message that you wanted to delete for everyone but ended up deleting for you only?
You need not worry about that as there are ways to recover deleted WhatsApp messages which would be discussed in this post.
How WhatsApp Messages Get Deleted
There are three different ways in which messages on WhatsApp can be deleted:
“Delete for Me”: When you delete messages as delete for me, you remove it from your chat only.
“Delete for Everyone”: When you delete messages as delete for everyone, you remove it from both yours and the recipient’s chat.
Clear Chat or Clear App Data: When you accedently clear the entire chat or clear whatsapp app data, this removes the entire conversations on whatsapp.
The recovery of messages is more likely and possible, if you have deleted messages as “Delete for Me”. However if you have delted the messages by the other two ways, the recovery of the messages is almost impossible. You can still recover messages even if you have deletd the entire conversation or deleted as “Delete for Everyone.”
Does WhatsApp Backup Deleted Messages?
Yes, whatsapp does back all the messages including the deleted messages too but only if the message hasn’t been deleted at the time of your last backup. Backups on WhatsApp:
- Happens Daily, weekly, monthly, or manually as per your preferences on your settings.
- Are Stored on Google Drive (Android) or iCloud (iPhone).
- Include texts, photos, videos, documents, and links.
If you deleted a message after the last backup, the deleted messages can be recovered and restored to the chat.
How to Check Your Last WhatsApp Backup
You can check your last back up of your whatsapp chats by following the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your phone.
Step 2: Go to Settings and then to Chats and then Chat Backup.
Step 3: Check the “Last Backup” date and time
You can consider yourself lucky if the back up has happned before the message was deleted.
How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Messages: Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: You need to first Uninstall WhatsApp to start the message recovery process. You can also clear app’s data to get the same result.
Step 2: In the next step, Reinstall WhatsApp by downloading it again from the Play Store on Android or App Store on iPhone.
Step 3: Verify Your Phone Number using the same number that was used with the WhatsApp account in which the message is to be recovered.
Step 4: WhatsApp will look for your back ups and ask if you want to restore. Tap on “Restore” to recover all the chats.
Step 5: You need to wait for a while till the chat restoration is processed and completed. You can then choose to restore the media in the background after the messages are recovered.
Any messages received and deleted after the backup date will be lost unless it has been backed up again.
Can I Recover Deleted WhatsApp Messages Without a Backup?
Unfortunately, WhatsApp doesn’t allow users to recover the permanently deleted messages for privacy and security reasons. However, if you are using third-party apps for WhatsApp, you would be able to see deleted WhatsApp messages.
This is not avisable are this may lead to the breach of security and data risks.
